Fancy Golden Milk

GLUTEN FREE – SERVES 2 BIG OR 3 MEDIUM CUPS

I love turmeric. It’s tangy and spicy and it has a beautiful bright orange color. It’s a happy spice.  Personally, I don’t enjoy it that much in savory foods, mostly because as it is often mixed with countless other spices its flavour gets lost. However, when it comes to turmeric in milk, in kombucha, or in pastries … well, that’s another story.

There are endless turmeric latte recipes and blends out there. Overall, they all use a very similar mix of spices, so here ( https://www.mynewroots.org/site/2017/12/big-batch-golden-milk/ ) I will leave you my favorite spice blend, which you can easily make at home, and then I will show you my own way to combine it. Indeed, you can also use a store-bought blend of your choice if you prefer.

It might seem like a lot of ingredients for a latte but you know, we wanna treat ourselves and we want our drink to be tasty and nutritious. There are reasons why I choose different kinds of milk, why I add coconut oil, and so on, each ingredient deserves its own place in here. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Ingredients

X 2 BIG CUPS OR 3 MEDIUM

2 tsp of your favorite golden milk spice blend

1 tsp virgin coconut oil

1 1\2 tsp tahini

1 tsp maple syrup

1 small pinch of salt

1 cup soy milk

1 cup oat milk ( check for certified gluten free oats if you want it without gluten)

1\2 cup water

Method

Heat the milk and water in a pot. When hot, add the rest of the ingredients and whisk with energy.

I like to do this step in a high-speed blender. I find that everything combines better, especially the tahini, but you can just do it in the same pot with a wish.

If using the blender, add the hot milk along with the rest of the ingredients and blend for 40 seconds.

Serve hot with a little sprinkle of cinnamon or golden milk spice mix.

I personally prefer oat and soy milk but If you are a fan you could use almond milk. I only like homemade almond milk and I think this recipe is already quite rich, however, I know there are plenty of almond lovers out there so if you wanna try it, let me know in the comments how it turns out.
